Electro-Mechanical Prototyping Technician - May 26th, 2026

Location: Windsor Mill, Maryland, United States

Job Type: Full-time

Work Location: In person

Support the rapid design, fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and iteration of electro-mechanical prototypes for a medical diagnostic instrument. This role works closely with engineering and laboratory teams to build verification hardware, fabricate test fixtures, assemble precision subsystems, modify parts, support experiments, and improve prototype reliability through hands-on problem-solving.

Job Duties:
  • Build, modify, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical prototypes, breadboards, fixtures, jigs, and test rigs.
  • Fabricate and modify parts using hand tools, small mills/lathes, drill presses, sheet-metal tools, adhesives, fasteners, and light machining methods.
  • Assemble and rework PCBs, cable harnesses, sensors, motors, pumps, connectors, enclosures, and mechanical subassemblies.
  • Interpret and redline CAD drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Work from incomplete or evolving designs and provide feedback to engineers on manufacturability, serviceability, assembly sequence, and prototype robustness.
  • Troubleshoot prototype failures using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, microscopes, calipers, and other bench tools.
  • Document builds, design changes, test setups, issues, and lessons learned using photos, notes, spreadsheets, or engineering change records.
Job Requirements:
  • A.S. degree related to Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, may be substituted with experience.
  • 5 years practical experience in small device prototyping/assembly or related work.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the development of innovative product designs.
  • Precision and attention to detail for accurately following schematics and procedures.
  • Efficient working practices and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Prototyping Skills:
  • Experience with lab automation, robotics, fluidics, pumps, sensors, optical systems, medical devices, or analytical instruments.
  • Sheet-metal cutting, bending, fastening, and enclosure modification.
  • 3D printing, print preparation, post-processing, and design-for-print feedback.
